Baroque Style: LAMPS FOR INTERIOR DESIGN

Baroque style is luxury, elite, and exaggeratedly emotional. The style has appeared in the 17th century, so humanity returned to the elegance, grandeur, and luxury after several decades of simplicity in the room decoration. Thus, the new style was filled with complexity, unpredictability, and theatricality. Here the intricacy, contrast, and high emotionality overshadowed rigor, symmetry, and linearity of the forms in the Renaissance style.

Baroque style in lighting

Baroque interiors are always refined and luxurious, even a little pompous. Their implementation requires space and high ceilings. In a small cottage or city apartment, you can get a room worthy of stylization, but the designers will have to work hard. When decorating an interior, you cannot win without effective lighting.

Baroque lighting fixtures are characterized by:

  • crystal decor – exquisite plafonds, long pendants, faceted stones on the body of the items;
  • the use of metals for the manufacture of lamp bodies – for rooms with high ceilings, massive chandeliers are required, therefore bronze and steel are usually used;
  • gilding of the entire body or individual parts of lighting fixtures;
  • rich colors: deep shades of burgundy, blue, dark green, terracotta colors, as well as combinations of white and gold, are used;
  • the use of a mirror surface;
  • chandeliers and sconces are made in the form of candlesticks.

Baroque chandeliers

For lighting baroque interiors, massive chandeliers are used, with a large number of light sources, made in the same style. The respectability of the lighting fixtures made for the palaces is enhanced by luxurious crystal pendants. Crystal decor is always made faceted so that rays from a light source could be refracted in it and scattered in hundreds of glare around. Cascading crystal chandeliers with many pendants look elegant and luxurious, such multi-tiered models will become the center of the interior. Ideal for duplex halls and living rooms in modern residential buildings, luxury hotels, and theaters.

A feature of baroque chandeliers is the presence of colored crystal – usually blue, red, or brown. Leaves, glass bells can be used for decoration to complement the complete composition of the chandelier. The chandelier is placed in several tiers, which makes the product even more pompous and pretentious. The expressiveness of the chandeliers is given by a massive metal case, decorated with a crystal ball or metal figures.

Floor lamps and sconces for additional lighting

For large living rooms with baroque interiors, one large chandelier is usually selected for the main lighting and several sconces or floor lamps for additional lighting and zoning of the room. Sconces made in the Baroque style are distinguished by pomp and decorativeness. Manufacturers use different materials: crystal, colored glass, bronze, brass, and copper. The luminaires are decorated with pendants and decorative details with gentle curves. Users often opt for sconces in the shape of a girandole or a bowl. Girandole is a candlestick for several candles. Styling under an antique figured candlestick makes the sconces unique and sophisticated. There are options for baroque sconces in the form of inverted bowls, flower buds. Models are distinguished by a massive bronze or brass base. The color scheme of the sconces is rather restrained – light tones, gold, colored crystal prevail. The bases are decorated with gilding, silvering, artificial patina.

Baroque floor lamps are used less often than chandeliers and sconces, so their choice is somewhat limited. There are models that are made in the form of an old floor chandelier for several candles. This sconce has a metal body, a stable base, and can be decorated with crystal pendants.
