Karen Herold has a degree in fashion design and more than 20 years of experience in interior design. Her intuitive and multi-disciplinary working style enables her to provide guidance on all elements of the creative process. In order to provide end-to-end design solutions for all projects, Karen launched Studio K in 2014 with the goal of building a broad team of creative and forward-thinking brand strategists, visionaries, aesthetic masters, and technical designers.
The major goal was to produce a design that pays homage to the brand’s history without resorting to clichés. With a location across the street from Wrigley Field, Hotel Zachary was inspired by the ballpark’s original architect, Zachary Taylor Davis. Approachable and versatile, the public spaces feel like a beautiful, private estate reminiscent of his own home. By featuring Zachary’s family heirlooms, repurposing his architectural sketches into key art pieces, and leaving behind subtle details that honor his wife and children, the charming space is a truly authentic design that represents a true piece of Chicago history.
