Green Grads
The first edition of GREEN GRADS took place in September 2021 as part of the Planted Design Show at the London Design Festival in Samsung KX at King’s Cross. GREEN GRADS, co-directed by Studio Tucktite’s Michael Czerwinski and conceived and curated by design advocate and commentator Barbara Chandler, showcased new graduate talent from across the UK, exploring products and projects with a diverse and stimulating mix of “green” ideas that promote sustainability, biophilia, and a cleaner, greener way of life. The GREEN GRADS explain all at SaloneSatellite 2022, in a 25 minute film created specifically for the SaloneSatellite by David Morris, editor of Design Exchange magazine and director of Flying Film Lab.
Design with Nature
With “Design with Nature,” a significant exhibition/installation that offered triggers for contemplation on the future of design practise, Milano once again explored the relationship between nature and the way we live. The idea behind the project, which was created in collaboration with architect Mario Cucinella and explores the themes of circular economy and reuse, is that cities may be future “reserves” where most of the raw materials required in construction could be sourced. The installation, which spans a broad area and transforms into both a landscape and a haven for debate, sharing, reading, contemplating, and working, explored three key themes: ecological change, the home as the primary urban element, and the city as a mine.

TALK: The real imaginary story of Salone del Mobile
The essayist and curator Chiara Alessi’s “The Real Imaginary Story of the Salone del Mobile” event featured Marco Dambrosio, also known as Makkox, an illustrator and television writer, as they analysed and re-imagined the trade fair’s sixty years. Their conversation addressed the key stages of the world’s most important design event, spanning decades and the most significant occurrences since its founding in 1961 to the present day. Memories and elegies were defined by protagonists, events, places, images, and, of course, objects chosen by Chiara Alessi and transformed into imaginative vignettes by Makkox.
