Size Chandelier
–
Chandeliers are not just for grand hallways and dining rooms, they are for bedrooms too. Here are a few tips that will help you get the right size chandelier for your bedroom. Take a look:
SIZE
The appropriate size of a chandelier comes from the size of the bedroom and the height of the walls. Add the width and length of the bedroom together. Consider the result as inches, not feet, and use this number for the number of inches of diameter most appropriate for the chandelier.
The height of a chandelier is calculated at two to three inches for each vertical foot of the wall. For example, a 12-by-14-foot bedroom with 10-foot ceilings can accommodate a chandelier 26 inches in diameter and 20 to 30 inches long. Consider that the lowest point on a 30-inch chandelier, mounted to the ceiling, should be 7 1/2 feet above the floor.
FUNCTION
The purpose of the chandelier should be considered. In a bedroom, an ambient light fixture is typically the main one and is situated on the ceiling in the middle of the room. If people must walk under it, a shorter chandelier may be more appropriate to the bedroom.
A mood chandelier in a bedroom is well suited to a dimmer switch, allowing for mood-altering light levels. Consider also how the chandelier will be turned on and off. The position of the light switch must be easily accessible; it should not be behind a high-boy chest of drawers, for example.
The style of the bedroom dictates the style of the light fixtures. A modern styled bedroom suggests a sleek, metal style. A traditional , or antique-filled bedroom suggests a crystal bejeweled fixture. Antique a modern chandelier with paint to better suit a contemporary, or transitional, bedroom decor.
