The walk-up impression of this hotel begins with the glistening crystalline exterior of 125 foot wide corrugated crystal-like curtain on the tower levels of the 50 story building. The first 12 floors of the building feature 114 rooms/suites, with 60 private residences on floors above, accessible through a separate entrance.
Three grand chandeliers hang, seemingly casually spaced, suspended by rough cord rope. The color scheme almost goes into the reverse of the Grand Salon’s as cozy dark tones receive the pop of white and the sparkle of a hand-applied mica-finished ceiling.
In the mid-19th century, Baccarat manufacturers began experimenting with the crystal. They discovered that by adding the 24-carats gold powder to clear crystal during the melting process and gradually heating to 240 degrees Celsius, the crystal transforms into a ruby color.
The duo Gilles & Boissier created the perfect ambiance for a fine-dining experience, with opulent silk and plush upholstery scattered throughout the 22-foot-high salon. In Baccarat’s true fashion, the Grand Salon counts with numerous pieces made with Baccarat crystal, including the outstanding 64-arm Baccarat chandelier.
