The first pendant lamps in history called – chandelier, they were hung on long chains in temples and cathedrals. Such lamps were made of copper, wrought iron, and silver. The chandeliers were large, in one or several tiers, with many pendants. By the way, modern chandeliers made in the classical style are somewhat reminiscent of those same fixtures.

In the XVII century, French masters came up with a lighting device made of crystal – a chandelier. It just hung from the ceiling on chains, not attached. The use of incandescent lamps was a real breakthrough in the evolution of lighting. Since then, lighting devices have undergone changes many times, acquiring ever more advanced forms.

Pendant lights are suitable for various tasks. The term “pendant” characterizes the type of equipment, and the devices themselves can be a chandelier (both classic and modern), a single suspension, and a group of suspensions.
One of the main tasks of a pendant lamps is to provide general lighting. A correctly selected chandelier can not only illuminate the room but also give it a completely new look.

A wide selection allows you to choose a lamp in accordance with the interior design of the room. For the interior, made in the style of “baroque”, “rococo”, “classic” with the appropriate furniture, stucco, and columns fit lamps with decorative metal elements, classic ornament, original crystal pendants.
If the room is made in the style of hi-tech or minimalism, you need to choose a pendant lamp in the appropriate style. The original form, cool colors, and strict elements are the distinctive style of such lamps. They will be an excellent solution for such interiors.
Models of fixtures made of metal and frosted glass, a strict laconic form will be appropriate in almost any interior. When choosing a pendant lamps, it is worth considering the natural illumination of the room and its color scheme.
Place for pendant lamps

Pendant lamps can be used in different rooms where they solve a wide variety of tasks, but it is best practice to place them in rooms with high ceilings. In the office, table lamps illuminate the work area, and pendant lamps act as general lighting and reduce the difference in illumination in the dark.
Pendant lamps in the living room and dining room look appropriate. You can use the lamp, which will become a central element in the composition of the room’s lighting. There is another option – use a group of pendant lights.

Pendant lamps are placed above the kitchen table or peninsula. Their light is sent to the countertop, which allows the “mistress of the kitchen” to comfortably prepare delicious dishes.

An advantageous solution is to use single suspensions instead of lamps on bedside tables. This approach will save space on the cabinets and will be interesting from a design point of view. In this case, it is necessary to choose the optimal suspension length so that there is enough light on the illuminated surface, and the lamp does not interfere with the placement of necessary things.
Where and how much?

Pendant lamps allow zoning the space, emphasize, if necessary, the color and texture of finishing materials. Sometimes the lamp becomes a bright accent, the main element of the room. How to determine how many pendant lights you need? It is almost impossible to unequivocally answer this question. The quantity depends on the types and sizes of the premises, the ceiling height, local tasks, the color scheme of the premises, and the needs of the person. Nevertheless, some gradation can still be determined.

If the room is small, it is quite possible to go with one lamp. By adding spotlights, you can add light. In the dining rooms and living rooms use a group of lamps that are placed above the bar or table.
If you choose three-dimensional models, 2-3 lamps will be enough. It is better to include one model line in the group composition, this will add integrity to the interior. Modern designers create unique instances of fixtures that surprise with skillfully executed decor. Intricate drawings on the surface, the play of light and shadows turn a simple room into an unusual place in which lamps turn into works of art.
